What is general insurance?

General insurance covers everything except life — your vehicle, health, home, business, goods, machinery and legal liabilities. In exchange for a premium, the insurer protects you against financial loss from accidents, theft, fire, natural calamities, lawsuits and more. Unlike life insurance (which pays on death or maturity), general insurance is typically an annual contract that you renew.

For an individual it means protecting your car, bike, health and home. For a business it means safeguarding your factory, stock, employees, goods in transit and professional liability. The right cover turns an unpredictable, potentially ruinous loss into a manageable, fixed annual cost — that's the real value of insurance.

Why insurance is important

Insurance is the quiet foundation of financial security. We work hard to build assets — a car, a home, a business, a steady income — yet a single accident, fire, theft or lawsuit can undo years of effort in moments. Insurance exists to absorb that shock, so one bad day doesn't become a lifelong setback.

It converts uncertainty into a fixed cost

Nobody can predict an accident or a natural calamity. What insurance does is replace an unknown, potentially huge loss with a small, known annual premium. That predictability is what lets families and businesses plan with confidence instead of living one mishap away from crisis.

It protects your family and dependents

A personal accident policy or health cover ensures that if something happens to you, your family isn't forced to drain savings or take on debt. For a breadwinner, this protection is not a luxury — it's a responsibility.

It keeps businesses alive after a loss

For a business, the right cover is the difference between a temporary setback and permanent closure. Fire at a warehouse, theft of stock, a liability lawsuit, an injured worker, damaged goods in transit — each can be financially fatal to an uninsured business. Commercial insurance keeps operations running and obligations met even after a major loss.

It's often a legal and contractual requirement

Motor third-party cover is mandatory by law. Workmen compensation is required for many employers. Banks insist on insuring mortgaged property; contracts often require liability cover. Being properly insured keeps you compliant and credible.

It brings peace of mind

Beyond the numbers, insurance buys something harder to measure — peace of mind. Knowing your vehicle, home, health, business and people are protected lets you focus on living and growing, instead of worrying about what might go wrong. That is the true return on a well-chosen policy.

The cost of being uninsured

Many people skip cover to save a modest premium, only to face a catastrophic bill later — a major car repair, a hospital stay, a stolen inventory, a court award. The premium almost always costs far less than the loss it protects against. Being under-insured is a silent risk that surfaces only when it's too late. A short conversation today can ensure you have the right cover, at the right value, before you ever need it.

Frequently asked questions

What is general insurance?
General insurance covers everything except life — your vehicle, health, home, business, goods, machinery and legal liabilities — protecting you financially against accidents, theft, fire, calamities and lawsuits.
Is motor insurance mandatory in India?
Yes. At least third-party motor insurance is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for every vehicle on Indian roads.
What is the difference between third-party and comprehensive insurance?
Third-party covers only your liability to others. Comprehensive adds own-damage cover for your own vehicle from accident, theft, fire and calamities.
What is No Claim Bonus (NCB)?
NCB is a discount on your own-damage premium for every claim-free year. Renew within 90 days of expiry to keep it; delay beyond that and you can lose it.
How is third-party premium decided?
Third-party premiums are fixed by IRDAI based on vehicle category and engine capacity, and are usually revised each year around 1 April.
What is zero depreciation cover?
A zero-depreciation (bumper-to-bumper) add-on means no depreciation is deducted on parts during a claim, so you get a higher payout. It's valuable for newer or expensive vehicles.
What is the property damage limit in third-party insurance?
Third-party property damage compensation is generally capped at ₹7.5 lakh, while liability for injury or death has no upper monetary cap.
What is fire insurance?
Fire insurance protects buildings, plant, machinery, stock and contents against fire and allied perils like explosion, earthquake and flood.
Who needs workmen compensation insurance?
Employers in factories, construction, manufacturing, transport and warehousing — it covers their legal liability to compensate workers injured or killed during employment.
What is a personal accident policy?
It pays a benefit for accidental death or disability (total/partial, permanent/temporary), often with extras like hospital cash and children's education benefit.
What does marine insurance cover?
It covers goods in transit by sea, air, rail or road against loss or damage — for exports, imports and inland movement of cargo.
What is professional indemnity insurance?
It protects professionals (CAs, doctors, architects, engineers, lawyers) against claims of negligence, errors or omissions in their professional service.
What is a shopkeepers package policy?
An all-in-one policy bundling fire, burglary, money, liability, glass and more for shops and small businesses at an affordable combined premium.
What is Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance?
It protects company directors and officers against personal liability for decisions made in their management role.
Can I get cashless claim settlement?
Yes, for many motor and health claims through network garages/hospitals, subject to insurer approval and policy terms.
What documents are needed for a motor claim?
Typically RC, driving licence, policy copy, FIR (for theft/major accidents), photos, repair estimate and bills. We help you compile them.
How long does claim settlement take?
It varies by claim type and documentation. After survey and complete documents, insurers aim to settle within the regulated timelines.
What is engineering insurance?
It protects machinery, equipment and construction/erection projects against breakdown, damage and project-related risks (CAR, EAR, CPM, machinery breakdown).
What is cyber insurance?
It covers losses from cyber incidents — data breaches, hacking, fraud and related liability — increasingly important for businesses and professionals.
Is health insurance part of general insurance?
Yes. Health insurance is a major general-insurance line. I can help you choose individual, family floater or senior-citizen health cover too.
Can a policy renewal be denied?
Under IRDAI rules, retail general/health renewals can be declined only on grounds like fraud, non-disclosure or misrepresentation — not merely for a claims history.
What is business interruption cover?
It compensates for lost profit and ongoing expenses when an insured event (like fire) halts your business operations.
Do I need separate insurance for an electric vehicle?
EVs are insured like other vehicles, with EV-specific considerations and add-ons (e.g. battery cover). We arrange suitable EV motor cover.
What is fidelity guarantee insurance?
It protects an employer against financial loss from dishonest or fraudulent acts by employees.
What is industrial all-risk (IAR) insurance?
A comprehensive package for larger industrial units combining fire, machinery breakdown, burglary and business interruption under one policy.
How much does business insurance cost?
It depends on the sums insured, industry, risk profile and covers selected. I provide a tailored comparison after understanding your needs.
Can I insure goods I import or export?
Yes, through marine cargo insurance — on a specific (single shipment) or open (ongoing) policy basis.
What is public liability insurance?
It covers your legal liability for injury or property damage caused to third parties on your premises or due to your operations.
Are premiums fixed across insurers?
Third-party motor premiums are IRDAI-fixed, but own-damage and most other premiums vary by insurer, risk and add-ons — which is why comparison helps.
How do I get a quote?
Message me your requirement on WhatsApp or call. I'll understand your need and share a suitable, comparative quote.
Can you help with claims even if I didn't buy through you?
My focus is on policies arranged through me, where I can best assist end-to-end with intimation, documentation and follow-up.
Do you serve customers outside Delhi NCR?
Yes. While based in Delhi NCR, I assist clients across India with policy guidance and support.
What is a standalone own-damage policy?
It covers only own damage to your vehicle and is bought alongside a separate third-party policy — useful when their renewal dates differ.
Is travel insurance a general insurance product?
Yes. Travel insurance (domestic and international) covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation, lost baggage and more.
What is an MSME / SME insurance package?
A bundled policy designed for small and medium enterprises, combining property, liability and other relevant covers cost-effectively.
Why buy insurance through an advisor instead of online?
An advisor helps you choose the right cover and sum insured, avoid gaps, and — crucially — assists at claim time, which is where guidance matters most.
How often should I review my insurance?
At least once a year, at renewal — to update sums insured, add new assets, and ensure your cover still matches your needs.
Can I bundle multiple covers together?
Yes. Package policies (shopkeepers, office, IAR, MSME) combine several covers into one convenient, often cheaper policy.
How do I start?
Reach out on WhatsApp or call 99115 81705. Tell me what you want to protect, and I'll guide you to the right cover.
